Monthly Nature Care Challenge | February 2020: Stoßlüften

Posted on February 1, 2020May 1, 2020 by Malu

It is still winter. That means lots of cuddly times with books, tea, knitting and podcasts for me. Well, trying to knit at least. But all that indoor activity and trying to ward off the cold means the air inside can get quite stale. I’ve recently noticed, how many people tip their windows for fresh…

Reading for Nature: My Book Report on Alan Weisman’s “The World Without Us”

Posted on January 30, 2020 by Malu

It is January and, where I am, that means woolly socks and vitamin D supplements and only emerging from a cuddly warm corner when you absolutely need to. What better time than this to read all the books I stacked up in the times where I rather was outside. And here’s one that I absolutely…

Monthly Nature Care Challenge | December 2019: Wrap Up Nicely

Posted on December 1, 2019May 1, 2020 by Malu

Oh look! It’s another festive season! Its the season for panicked shopping and stress-relieve-decorating. Aaaaah consumerism! Let us bury ourselves in garbage! Yes, I have been called a Grinch before, but hear me out: I’m a fan of Greta Thunberg and in a recent interview I saw on the Ellen Show, I learned her top…

Monthly Sustainability Challenge | November 2019: Share Food

Posted on November 1, 2019December 31, 2019 by Malu

About a quarter of all our greenhouse gas emissions are accounted to forestry and agriculture. Modern agriculture is one of the big contributors to habitat loss and the resulting extinction of way too many species already. To make it worse, about a third (!) of the food produced globally is lost or wasted. That’s about…

Monthly Sustainability Challenge | October 2019: Swap Clothes

Posted on October 1, 2019December 31, 2019 by Malu

At the risk of repeating myself, consumerism is bad for the planet. Which is why cutting down your consumption of things to what you actually NEED to be new, is a great way to love our mother earth better (I’m feeling very tree-huggy today). One thing we do not need to buy new, especially not…

Monthly Sustainability Challenge | August 2019: Short Distance Holidays

Posted on August 1, 2019January 17, 2020 by Malu

I just talked to someone who was upset about circumstances threatening to make flights from Germany to Mallorca more expensive and how that is a social injustice. But when did it get justifiable for anyone, regardless of income, to fly for just a long weekend? This month I challenge you, to have a look around…

About me

My name is Malu. I am a conservation-ecologist currently living in Germany. I’ve always been wild about the outdoors and can spend hours looking at an insect labouring away at its daily challenges, or a bird building its nest, or … there’s just so much amazing stuff happening out there! I’m really glad you’ve made it onto this page so I can share my joy with you.

Monthly Challenges

We only have about 6 to 8 years left to turn this environmental mess of a ship around. So much has to happen politically, but the people also need to change habits and start to appreciate our environment more. So every 1st of the month I post a monthly sustainability challenge for you to try for 30 days and if you like, adopt beyond the month.

The challenges  make up the major part in the flow of blog posts here, so they are easy to find. But if you want to get a good overview of the challenges set so far, simply follow the link below.
