This month, I challenge you to do something that you possibly already do: Use a keep cup. Keep cups are replacements for the single-use to-go cups made from waxed paper or plastic. Keep cups have become more and more fashionable lately and you can get them made from bio plastic (not recommended for any beverage hotter than 70°C (155°F)), ceramic, glass, stainless steel, with lids that resemble those of the take away cups or lids you can seal completely and throw in your bag.
But producing these containers obviously needs more energy than producing a paper cup. So you have to USE the cup over and over for it to become the better alternative.
I challenge you this month to not use a single single-use cup and instead always keep your keep cup in your bag.
Rinse and order your coffee in your cup. If your café doesn’t do it, ask them why not. Drop a comment online for cafés who have not caught up yet. Many places actually offer a small discount if you bring your own cup.
You don’t even need to buy a fancy hip to-go-cup if you don’t want to. I like my hot stuff with a lid (just burnt my hands one time too many while cycling) but my friend just uses a regular mug and rinses it with a splash of water before putting back in his bag.
