Hello lovely people!
I have a gift for you: a nice, home made, no cost gift idea for that person you forgot to get something for and now it just got stressful.
A rejuvenating, coffee scented, gently moisturizing, exfoliating body scrub!
All you need is any amount of used coffee grinds from this morning. I really hope you don’t use those single-use aluminium caps. Because I have no idea how they work or what the waste product is, besides way too much aluminium.
So grab your french press or drip-filter full of wet grinds, squeeze out as much liquid as you can and spread them out on a baking tray and leave to dry. Place them on the heater if time is of the essence. When the grinds are completely dry, you’ve got a body scrub. It is really important that the grinds are absolutely dry, otherwise your scrub will mold in its container and that’s not a very nice gift.
Now, I like my body scrubs to be bordering on painful, just so I feel like something is happening. So I don’t do anything with the grinds besides dry them. If you wish to create less of a masochistic experience, consider throwing the dried grinds in a high speed food processor for a minute or two, or further grinding them with a mortar.
Fill the grinds in a pretty container, but a bow and gift tag on it, BOOM! last minute Christmas gift done!
How to Use the Scrub
Mix some grinds in the palm of your hands with a few drops of water, then rub all over your wet skin and massage. Rinse with warm water. Feel soft and silky and coffee scented. I don’t feel the need use lotion after this.
Fun caffeine facts:
- Caffeine is said to increase circulation and is widely used in shampoos marketed to prevent or slow balding.
- I have no written proof for this, but a person who worked at a plant where chemically produced caffeine is made, told me, that the same caffeine that is in Head And Shoulders shampoo, also goes into Coca Cola products.
Hi Malu,
I really like your blog a lot! Lots of really good ideas in the December post. And now i finally know what to do with my coffee grounds – it’s like you get to enjoy them twice!
Hi Meryl! Thanks for your nice comment! You enspired me to do a post about the many things one can do with coffee grinds! So thank you for that 🙂
